Events

Ruritan sponsored events that are held at the Farm Heritage Park include:

  • Farm Heritage Day (typically held in the Spring). Is a time to see agriculture of the past come to life. Huge steam engines on display, games for kids and adults, raffles, cloggers, live music, food and fun for all ages. New for 2011: The Civil War Reenactors, Double L Bar Shooters, and “All Out Art Invitational”.
  • Old Fashioned Farmers’ Day (held on Labor Day weekend Friday – Sunday)

Other events at the Farm Heritage Park include:

  • Horse shows through Triangle Wide Horse Association. For more information, contact Shannon Clark at (919) 542-7810.
  • In August 2009, UNC TV filmed a segment of the PBS show “The Woodwright’s Shop with Roy Underhill” at the Silk Hope Farm Heritage Center. The show primarily studied the steam powered equipment including the door shop. Our local craftsmen gave Roy an in-depth lesson on using steam for powering our sawmill, planing and edging machines, our door and window shop and the cotton bale press. View photos from this event
